HASLAM SEARCHING FOR DUTCH DELIGHT

Akrapovic equipped racer Leon Haslam is aiming for success in Sunday’s third round of the World Superbike Championship at the historic Assen circuit in the north of Holland.

Leon Haslam
BMW’s Haslam has taken three podium finishes from the last three years at Assen and
is hoping to continue that run this weekend.

“Assen is a great track and one of my favourites,” said Haslam. “It’s a fast and flowing
circuit and there’s always a lot of British fans at Assen so it provides a great
atmosphere.”

After the opening two rounds – in Australia and Italy – the S1000RR rider is fourth in the
World Championship and arrives in Holland on the back of two podium finishes after
taking third place in both races at Imola three weeks ago.

“The Imola round was good for results but it was also very good for the consistent performance we found with the machine and Pirelli tyres throughout the weekend,”
continued Haslam. “I’m really pleased with the way the team is working this year and I’d
like to think our hard work will let us challenge for race wins soon and the world title.”
Haslam tested at Mugello in Italy on Tuesday and believes the BMW machine continues
to improve as he looks to give the German manufacturer a first win.

He concluded: “We are getting closer and closer to that first victory and if I get a chance
to win I’ll be taking it. At Imola I was only three seconds away from the victory so it’s all
very positive.”

DOUBLE PODIUM FINISH FOR SWAN YAMAHA AT THRUXTON

Swan Yamaha’s Tommy Hill secured a double podium finish at Thruxton today at the second round of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship.

Hill had secured the pole position and in the opening race of the day and led for the majority of race one before Ian Lowry made a move with three laps remaining to force the defending champion to second place. In race two Hill again led the pack but as he suffered from lack of grip in the closing stages he again was forced to settle for second place, this time to Josh Brookes.

Number one- that'd be Tommy Hill then!

Noriyuki Haga had been working his way through the pack in the opening race but a technical issue forced him to retire after just five laps. In race two Haga had worked his way up to sixth place but in the closing stages he also suffered from lack of grip and ended the race tenth.

Hill said: “It was a hard decision for race two and I contemplated changing between race one and two but we decided to go with what we knew as we didn’t want to go for a massive gamble that could have ruined our race. I could see Shakey was losing grip and I can’t believe I got robbed on the last lap for the win as that is twice today we have just missed out. Podiums are important though and after last weekend it was great to get back on the podium for Swan Yamaha. I think we will have more to come at Oulton Park next time out.”

Haga said: “We had an unfortunate problem in the first race and I had to retire but for sure we could have been up there as we were improving all the time. It did make it difficult for race two as I didn’t have all the data from race one like the other riders, but we didn’t make many changes and then I was pushing hard in the first laps. It was hard to catch the leading group as we were out of the slipstream but Josh (Brookes) came past and he was very fast, by then I was starting to lose grip with the rear tyre and I had a few on the grass moments which meant I lost places. I was attacking Scassa before that and I think if we had finished race one we would have known more how the Swan Yamaha would react at the end of the race. I think Oulton Park should be a better result.”

The Samurai of Slide- Nori Haga
Team owner Shaun Muir concluded: “It was a solid weekend for Tommy and two podiums underlined his credentials. Noriyuki had a really disappointing race one through no fault of his own as a technical problem ended his charge. He then didn’t have the data from a full race and that cost him as he was looking like he could finish in the top six but then suffered with lack of grip towards the end of the race. He showed that he is moving forward so we expect to see more from him at Oulton Park.”

McConnell and Richards Secure Double Victory For Smiths (Gloucester) Racing

The Smiths (Gloucester) Racing team enjoyed their best weekend to date in the Motorpoint British Supersport Championship protected by Datatag with a fantastic double victory at Thruxton this weekend.

Both Glen Richards and Billy McConnell took a race win each whilst Richards also took a third in Sunday's second race giving the team even more reason to celebrate at their local track. Luke Mossey also finished in the top five in both races to crown a brilliant weekend for Alan Smith's team.

2009 British Supersport Champion Richards qualified on pole position for Saturday's sprint race and he was never out of the top two places. Second in the early stages, Glen was part of a five-rider battle for the lead, and eventually took control of the race on lap 10. Hitting the front, the Australian never looked back and pulled away to take his and the team's first victory of the season.

Whilst he was celebrating, team-mate McConnell was cursing his bad luck as he was part of the same five-rider group and led on lap five but no sooner was he at the front then he was in the pits with a broken rectifier. Mossey, meanwhile, worked his way through the pack from a fourth row qualifying position to claim a well earned fifth place.

Sunday's longer 18-lap feature race was better still with a scintillating six-way battle for the win with all three Smiths riders in the mix. The lead changed hands on numerous occasions but it was McConnell who prevailed, the Australian winning by a narrow margin from Irishman Jack Kennedy, to put Saturday's disappointment firmly behind him. Fellow countryman Richards, who also led the race, was only two tenths of a second further back in third with Mossey in an excellent fourth.

Metzeler National Superstock 600cc rider Johnny Blackshaw also gave the team plenty to cheer about as he finished in fourth place despite the handicap of riding the entire race with no clutch. He narrowly missed out on a podium but it was a superb effort and has moved him up the championship table.

Glen Richards: "Getting the first win of the season has got our championship up and running and after a disappointing Brands Hatch meeting, first and third is the perfect way to bounce back. Tyres are always an issue here but everything went well in the first race and I was in the right place at the right time, taking full advantage and edging away from the pack just when I needed to. The second race was just great to be part of and really enjoyable and fair play to Billy, he rode really well. We came here to get some strong points and that's what we did so full credit must go to the team. They've given me a fantastic bike and it's a great package which is working really well."

Billy McConnell: "I'm back to where I want to be and everyone's been working so hard and to get the win is a tremendous feeling. We were unlucky in the first race with a broken rectifier but everything was flawless in the second race. After the ups and downs of 2011, the team have given me a great opportunity and everything I possibly need so a big thank you must go to them. We're back on track now and I can't wait until the next round."

Luke Mossey: "I'm really pleased with my results this weekend and although I struggled a bit in the wet and didn't qualify as high as I would have liked, my race pace was really good. I was able to run with the leading group in both races and we were all running a similar pace which was great fun to be part but also made it difficult to overtake. We've proved this weekend we have the pace to run at the front though so with some solid points on the board, I'm really looking forward to Oulton in a few weeks time."

Johnny Blackshaw: "I'm pleased to get fourth but it's also a bit disappointing as I burnt the clutch off the line and from that moment on it was difficult to get the drive out of the corners. The bike's set up so well though that I could just ride the wheels off the bike and run at the front. I didn't do anything daft and kept picking off the riders in front of me and although I felt we had the pace to win this weekend, it's good solid points on the board. The team are doing a great job and the bike's a missile so it's great to be back at the sharp end and it bodes well for the rounds ahead."

Rebecca Smith, Team Manager: "It's simply been a great weekend for us. When my dad started the team in 2010, the goal was to firstly win a race and then the championship and we're standing here now with two wins under our belt so that's the first part done. With some good weather, we were confident of having two good races and apart from the technical problem with Billy's bike in race one, it's all gone to plan.
"The wins for Glen and Billy were superb and we're over the moon with them but equally pleased for Luke and Johnny too. They both rode brilliantly and their confidence is high now so they can both go to the next round knowing they have nothing to fear. We've proved this weekend we have the pace to win races and we're confident in everything we're doing so the next round can't come soon enough."

Fraught Racing at Thruxton for Gearlink Kawasaki

Motorpoint British Supersport

After all the drama and issues at Brands Hatch Ben Wilson got his podium streak back on track at round two of the Motorpoint Supersport Championship at Thruxton in race one. As always Thruxton produced the usual very close racing and Ben Wilson on the Gearlink Kawasaki missed out on second place by 0.015 to Sam Warren. Throughout the entire race Ben, Sam Warren, Glen Richards and Jack Kennedy were all fighting for the lead and exchanged places all the way through. Ben was extremely good into the final chicane and was able to make up time on the brakes; however a small mistake on the final lap allowed Warren to get the drag to the line and take second place. After a disappointing practise and qualifying David Jones finished a solid 27th place.

Ben was fourth on the grid for race two and David started in 30th, the sun continued to shine and despite the cold conditions and wind the racing was certainly nail-biting. The second race was epic and full of action packed racing with a six bike freight train battling for the race win, which included the Gearlink Kawasaki of Ben Wilson. He was unfortunate not to climb onto the podium step and ended the race in fifth place but remains in third in the Championship only 8.5 points behind the Championship leader Jack Kennedy. David Jones on the other Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R finished in 25th place after starting from 30th on the grid.

Ben Wilson gave it his usual 100%
Ben Wilson - "Obviously I'm not happy with the way things went this weekend and I'm still chasing my first win of the season. After all the problems at Brands with the weather and track conditions I wanted to come here and get my season on the right track. The good thing is that it's a long season and I'm third in the Championship and there are not many points in front of me. I know it's a long season and I have to keep scoring points but my main aim is to win so it's important that I do. The racing today was mental but clearly very good for the fans to watch and Thruxton has always produced racing like that. I've two sets of solid points in the bag and will be eager to progress and move forwards at Oulton Park."

David Jones- looking to boost confidence at Oulton

David Jones - "I had a couple of more problems this weekend and it's just knocked my confidence a little. Thruxton is a hard track to race at and get the correct set up for the very fast and bumpy circuit, we had to make a few changes over the weekend but I just couldn't settle into a rhythm. I need to try and get things improved for Oulton Park and I need a couple of decent results to boost my confidence a bit."

Metzeler Superstock 600s

At one of the hardest circuits on the UK calendar to learn, the Gearlink Superstock 600 rider Scott Hudson had a very good finish having qualified in 30th place he rode extremely well to bring the Kawasaki home in 21st position. The superfast circuit is extremely hard to learn and it was a very positive result for the 24-year-old on his first time here.

Scott Hudson - "I knew coming here would be hard as it's one of the only tracks in the country that you aren't allowed to go testing on. I've heard many things about the track and knew that it would be hard for me to learn, I was fortunate enough for Ben (Wilson) to do a few track walks with me over the weekend and it certainly helped in a massive way. I know this year is a big learning curve for me but it frustrates me because I want to do better for myself and the Gearlink Kawasaki team. I'm looking forward to getting to Oulton Park in a few weeks' time."

Team Manager Michael de Bidaph - "It's been another mixed weekend for us, Thruxton has never been the best of tracks for us so to leave here third in the Championship with Ben is good. We know what we need to do and it's important it starts happening, there was a lot of pressure on Ben pre season to be the favourite of the Championship but as this weekend proved there are a number of very strong teams and riders this year that we have to battle with. The team has worked very hard and we are looking forward to getting to some of the more technical circuits on the calendar and hopefully that race win will come. It's a long season and we know it will be a tough one with the competition out there. We'd like to get David higher up the field and work on his confidence and get him back happy with his riding which in turn will hopefully get us some good results. Scott (Hudson) did well in the Stock 600's his times improved in every dry session at a track we know is very difficult to learn. We are looking forward to getting to Oulton Park in a few weeks and get some good results there."

Tough Second Round for Samsung Honda

The Samsung Honda team endured a tough second round of the British Superbike Championship at Thruxton with Jon Kirkham taking a pair of seventh places with Michael Laverty scoring sixth and thirteenth.

In the opening race, Kirkham got caught in the pack on the first lap, which saw him drop down the order and then a determined ride saw him work back up to seventh. Michael Laverty started thirteenth of the grid and he also worked his way through the field to sixth place. In race two Kirkham equalled his seventh place whilst Laverty had a challenging race to finish thirteenth.

In the Superstock 1000 Championship Jason O'Halloran scored another podium finish third on the Samsung Honda. He had a strong start from the front row of the grid before a safety car period following a crash on the opening lap. O’Halloran dropped down to fifth but fought back in the closing stages.

Jon Kirkham: “I was blocked on the opening lap of the first race and dropped back to about 16th and had to fight-back so all things considered I am really happy with that result. I made a bad tyre choice in the second. In the first race I had 14 good laps but in the second I only had six good laps so I should have stuck with what I had. At least I have some points in the bag from this meeting.”

John Kirkham

Michael Laverty: “It has been a tough weekend really and in the first race my grid position gave me a lot of work to do. In race two I said to the team to go to a harder tyre but it was a mistake as our bike works well around here with the softer tyre. When they put the harder tyre in we had to make too many changes to the bike and we did have any grip.”

Michael Laverty

Jason O’Halloran: “As soon as soon as the safety car came in I thought we could make a charge but there were riders coming passed me at what felt like every corner and it messed up my rhythm a bit. We were fast on the straight but I was struggling with grip in some sections. Another podium is a great result for me and the Samsung Honda team.”

Jason O'Halloran

Havier Beltran, Team Manager: “It wasn’t the best day in the office for us and we had a few tyre situations that didn’t work how we had hoped, but at the same time two results are better than two DNFs. We now have a good amount of data to look through and we can then benefit from that. For Jason O'Halloran it was fantastic to get another podium finish"

Samsung Honda Victorious at Brands Hatch

The Samsung Honda team took victory in the first race of the opening round of the 2012 British Superbike Championship season at Brands Hatch today as Jon Kirkham made a move on the final corner of the final lap to cross the line ahead of Alastair Seeley and clinch glory.

Happy to oblige- The Samsung Honda boys
Kirkham had a good start from the front row and was in the leading pack, before taking the lead on the sixth lap. He was challenged for the position as Seeley made a move into Druids, but Kirkham was preparing to make a move and on the final lap as they exited Clearways he got the opportunity to take the advantage to cross the line 0.136 seconds ahead. It was a disappointing opening race for Michael Laverty who after starting from the sixth row was determined to move up the order, however on the opening lap the conditions caught him out and he high-sided on the exit of Druids and was then sidelined for the remainder of the race.

The second Superbike race of the day was unfortunately postponed to due to track conditions.

In the Superstock 1000 Championship, Jason O'Halloran scored the Samsung Honda team their first Superstock podium of the season after securing a solid third place finish. Gary Johnson, making his race debut for the team, fought his way through the field to sixth at the finish.

Jon Kirkham: "First race and first win for Samsung Honda and I am ecstatic. I knew there would be a few incidents but I just kept my head down. The safety car mixed me up a bit but then Alastair Seeley nipped up the inside of me at Druids and got away a little bit. I started closing back in on him and tried to make a pass at Paddock Hill but it was sliding underneath me. I just knew I needed to stay as close as possible to Alastair and then he got a bit sideways out of Clearways and I just went for it!"

John Kirkham- top of the pile at the moment!

Michael Laverty: “It has been a nightmare day for me; this morning was the first time I had any wet practice on the Samsung Honda and we planned on making some changes for the first race and I felt more comfortable even on the warm up laps. I just pushed as I knew I needed to make up some places early on and I just pushed too hard out of Druids and the bike bit me. This wasn’t the start I obviously wanted to the season but we will be looking to turn it around this weekend at Thruxton.”

M-Lav: not his favorite outing at Brands..
Jason O’Halloran: “It is fantastic to take a podium first time out on the Samsung Honda. The conditions were tough so I took it steady at the start and just took a bit too long to get going. The Honda felt good in those conditions though, and we have made some big steps forward again this weekend. I need to thank the team and my sponsors for their efforts in making this happen.”

Gary Johnson: “I had a disappointing qualifying session but I pushed hard to come through the field as I was on the back foot compared to some of the other riders where I have had less testing. I didn’t make the best start though and was caught out with some other people’s crashes but after seeing what happened to Michael my main concern was to have a points scoring finish.”

Team Manager, Havier Beltran: “It was fantastic for Jon to give the Samsung Honda team a victory in the first race of the season. He has gelled well with the team and he rode a controlled race and knew where he would have a chance to pass Seeley, and when he did he was able to make it happen. For Michael it went wrong in qualifying and that gave him a lot of work for the race and unfortunately he got caught out, like many others, in the conditions. It was also great to be on the podium with Jason in Superstock and for Gary to have a strong finish.”

DIFFICULT START TO THE SEASON FOR SWAN YAMAHA AT BRANDS HATCH

The Swan Yamaha team had a challenging start to their 2012 MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship campaign at Brands Hatch with just a single race taking place after conditions postponed race two at the Kent circuit.

Tommy Hill- excited at the thought of some sun for the next race
In the opening race of the season defending champion Tommy Hill struggled with a lack of rear grip and he slid off with three laps remaining at Graham Hill Bend unhurt. Noriyuki Haga also had a similar issue however he was able to score points in thirteenth position from his second row start. The second race was postponed to another round later in the season after an earlier incident contaminated the track. The Swan Yamaha team and both riders are now preparing for the next round of the championship at Thruxton in a few days time.

Hill said: “It is a disappointing start to the season and I am gutted that we didn’t have a chance to try and make amends in the second race for myself, the team and the fans but the right decision was made as the conditions were bad. In the first race I had a bit of a problem with the rear and I knew something wasn’t right. I just struggled with rear grip and was trying to score some points and that isn’t what we wanted to do here. I crashed and it was unlucky but we had a problem with the rear shock and we then worked hard to resolve it for the second race but never got the chance to try it out in the end. We will now regroup and move on to Thruxton where we will be aiming for the podium again as I know we have the pace.”

Haga said: “I am just super disappointed with the result and I wanted a better finish to the race for sure. I was having a problem with the rear grip and it was very slippery so it made it difficult to push hard and I wanted to get points and not crash. It did feel like a long race and it is a shame because if we had better feeling then we could have pushed more and then maybe had a better finish. The cold conditions didn’t help, but maybe we found a solution for the second race, but I was pleased that it was postponed as I think it was the best result in those conditions. I now look forward to Thruxton as I haven’t seen the circuit before.”

Haga- clearly enjoying the UK spring weather!
Team manager Gary Ekerold concluded: “We had a difficult race one here at Brands Hatch and both Tommy and Noriyuki suffered with rear grip issues. It would appear that they were separate issues though as we believe Noriyuki’s was down to his tyre whereas Tommy had a rear shock problem. The Swan Yamaha team worked hard though and we believed we had solved it for the second race and were looking forward to making amends but we just didn’t get the opportunity. It was the right decision so now the team will move on to Thruxton where we intend to get our championship back on track.”

Mixed Opener for Gearlink Kawasaki

Motorpoint British Supersport

It was a good start to the season for the Gearlink Kawasaki team yesterday (Sunday) at Brands Hatch and Ben Wilson on the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R secured a fantastic second place in the opening Motorpoint British Supersport race. Ben who qualified in fifth place was eager to start his Championship campaign well, the conditions were mixed and the Gearlink Kawasaki team opted to run Ben on intermediate Pirelli tyres. He gained one of his brilliant starts and slipped into the lead by the opening turn. As the weather worsened the track conditions became difficult and Ben eased off slightly to avoid making any mistakes, the race was eventually red flagged on lap 11 after the rain caused a number of riders to crash on previously dropped oil. His team-mate David Jones was forced to retire on lap five with a technical problem.

Ben Wilson- a very slippery weekend

Ben moved himself to the front row for race two which proved to be dramatic. Once again another stunning hole-shot and then Ben was gone and by the end of lap seven he had a lead of 7.2 seconds from his nearest rival Jack Kennedy. On lap eight as Ben dropped into turn three Graham Hill the bike tipped in front of him on the brakes and down he went, within seconds various riders were crashing around the circuit and the race was quickly red flagged due to track contamination. After a very long delay the riders were sent back out for what was scheduled to be a nine lap race. On the first lap seven riders crashed into Graham Hill, including Ben again, and the race was cancelled and half points were awarded, sadly with Ben being out of the result on the showing of the red flag in the initial race he was excluded from the results. David Jones also crashed out of the initial part of the race and unfortunately both riders were not eligible to score points.

Ben Wilson: "I was pretty pleased with scoring second in the first race yesterday and it was some good solid points to start the season with. I knew it was going to be wet today and I was quite excited about that prospect as I know we have a great wet set up. I just got my head down and felt really comfortable every lap and wasn't pushing beyond my limit. The track was fine until I came down into Graham Hill, did nothing different from any of the previous laps and as soon as I touched the brake down I went without any warning. We managed to get the bike back and the Gearlink Kawasaki team worked like crazy to get things back right. I started from pole which was the line they had sprayed with detergent and as the lights changed I just didn't move it just spun up and once again into Graham Hill the front just tucked. I'm totally gutted but it's a very long season and anything can happen, I'm not injured that's the main thing and I'm eager to get to Thruxton next weekend and put this weekend behind me and move on."

David Jones: "It's not been the best of weekends for me, practise and qualifying went well but the races proved to be a bit of a nightmare, I had a bike problem yesterday then crashed on the combination of fuel/oil and water on the track today. There is nothing I could have done today and I'm just hoping things can be rectified next weekend at Thruxton. The Gearlink Kawasaki team worked so hard after the first red flag came out to try and get my bike fixed to get me back out there, they did a mega job to get it fixed and back out on the grid. It's just a real shame that it was all cancelled and I just want to put this weekend behind me."

David Jones
Metzeler Superstock 600s

It was a great start to the season for the new Gearlink Superstock 600 rider Scott Hudson, the 24-year-old competed in his first ever British Championship race and finished in a great ninth place. The newcomer had a good qualifying and finished in 14th place for the grid for the 20 lap race. He gained a great start and was eighth after the opening lap. He was soon locked in a tight battle for sixth place and settled into a healthy rhythm in the very wet conditions.

Scott Hudson: "It's been a great first weekend with the Gearlink Kawasaki team and I'm really pleased to have walked away from my first round with some healthy Championship points. I've learnt so much this weekend and the team have been fantastic I didn't want to do anything stupid as I know it's a very long season. I was a little disappointed with my qualifying position but thankfully I managed to get a good start. The conditions out there were bad and the track was very slippery so I just wanted to bring the Kawasaki home safely and looking forward to getting to Thruxton next weekend."

Scott Hudson
Team Manager Michael de Bidaph: "It's not the weekend we wanted to start the season with but it is a very long season and now the pressure is off a little bit. We've done a bit of bike damage this weekend but that is fixable, the main thing is the riders are all ok and will be ready for Thruxton next weekend. The entire Gearlink Kawasaki team worked exceptionally hard this weekend and I'd like to thank them for that. We are now lying in third place with Ben in the Championship and there are still a lot more races during this season. We showed how fast Ben can run in the wet and his times and the way he was riding was fantastic. Scott in the Stock 600's made a fantastic start to the year on his debut appearance in the class and has taken away a good handful of points from Brands and we now have a busy week fixing the bikes before we head to Thruxton."

McConnell Claims Brands Hatch Podium For Smiths (Gloucester) Racing Team

The Smiths (Gloucester) Racing Team experienced a weekend of mixed fortunes when the opening round of both the Motorpoint British Supersport Championship and Metzeler National Superstock 600 Championship got underway at Brands Hatch, the highlight of which was a podium finish for Billy McConnell.

Billy McConnell- Supersport Race Two podium (Jon Jessop photo)
The weekend started promisingly as Australian McConnell claimed pole position for the opening British Supersport race on Sunday, with fellow Aussie Glen Richards third on the grid and young British rider Luke Mossey, from Cambridge, in sixth for the 18-lap race but with damp, greasy conditions around the 1.2-mile circuit, it was soon apparent all was not well as they dropped back through the pack.

By mid-race distance, both Glen and Luke had pulled into the pits after struggling with their tyres whilst Billy was hanging on in ninth. As the race entered its second half, rain began to fall quite heavily and the red flag soon came out to stop the race after a number of crashes. The race was subsequently declared a result on 11 laps with just Billy scoring points for the team in ninth place.

The second race of the weekend was held today in full wet conditions and it proved to be a race of attrition. McConnell was again showing well running in fourth position in the early stages whilst Richards was in eighth and moving forward. Mossey was again struggling in the conditions and found himself outside of the top 20 but on the ninth lap, the red flag came out after a crash deposited some fuel onto the circuit and although it was restarted, a multi-rider pile-up on the third corner, which included Billy, brought the race to an abrupt end. The result was declared at seven laps meaning Billy was credited with a third place podium finish with Richards in eighth and Mossey claiming 21st.

For Metzeler National Superstock 600cc Championship rider Johnny Blackshaw, it was certainly a contrasting  weekend as having claimed a superb pole position, a spill in morning warm-up severely damaged the bike and the Warrington rider had to start from pit lane with just moments to spare. Starting dead last in 38th place, he fought his way brilliantly through the pack to finish 12th and take four championship points.

Billy McConnell: "It's been a tough weekend with the weather and we've suffered with a major lack of grip in the wet so to come away with a third and a ninth place is a real bonus. Every point counts and fair play to the organisers for stopping the race when they did as it was really tough out there. I was lucky to escape injury when I was taken out by another rider so I'm very happy to take a podium. The team have done an awesome job and we can go to the next round in a strong position."

Glen Richards: "It's not the start we wanted but with the problems we have had, I'm happy to salvage a few points and go into the next round at Thruxton looking for better luck. We had a 'Flintstone Tyre' in race one - rock hard - so had no grip and then today, the fuel on the track made it very difficult but you get rounds like this. I'm pleased for Billy but hope to be up at the front next weekend at Thruxton."

Luke Mossey: "This was just not my weekend and I'm disappointed with how it's gone. Qualifying was good but the conditions in the races just didn't suit us this weekend so hopefully we can turn it round for the next round."

Johnny Blackshaw: "Having made the mistake in morning warm-up, I was gutted as I thought that was the day over but the team worked miracles in getting the bike ready to race and we literally made it with seconds to spare. Given the fact I was last and starting from pitlane, plus the terrible conditions, to come back to 12th and get a few points is more than I thought possible so all credit to the team."

Rebecca Smith, Team Manager: "We've had two very challenging days in some very difficult conditions whilst we've also had to contend with some tyre issues. The intermediate tyres just didn't work on Sunday and if it wasn't for Billy, we wouldn't have scored any points at all. In the feature race today, he put in a superb ride to take a much deserved podium and we're just glad he didn't suffer any injuries in what was a very heavy fall.
"Glen managed to pick up some solid points second time out whilst Luke struggled all weekend. He broke his arm here last year and I think that may have been playing on his mind so he'll be glad to put this meeting behind him. The results don't reflect our pace this weekend but it's been a contrasting few days for a lot of riders and teams so we'll look forward to the next round now and aim at getting all of the riders back at the sharp end."
