Maxxis British Championship MotoX action

The Performance Parts Ltd supported Foxwood DB Racing Honda Team returned to Maxxis British Championship action this past weekend at Round 4 of the 2012 season, the event was held in rare warm, sunny conditions at the Milton Park MX Facility on the outskirts of Northampton.

James Cottrell

Qualification went well as James Cottrell finished the session in 13th position.
As race 1 went into the opening James chose a good line and exited it in 3rd place.
James held on to 3rd until lap 3 when he was passed and dropped to 4th. He was putting on a really good showing and held a solid 4th place until the race was near its completion, he succumb to heavy pressure. James finished the race in a great 6th place.

Race 2 saw James get another good start, inside the top 10 in 8th place. A lot over the riders were running very similar pace by now at the hardpack track and passing in this race was at a premium. A small mistake from a rider ahead of James briefly promoted him up to 7th on lap 4, but 2 laps later he found himself loosing a position and returning to 8th, where he would go on to finish the race.

A change to the familiar 3 race format for each class (MX1 and MX2) at this event saw race 3 being held as a lengthened race consisting of the top 20 MX1 riders and top 20 MX2 combined, instantly putting James at a disadvantage as he was up against the more powerful MX1 bikes, but he still managed a decent start and settled in to 18th place on the opening lap. James finished in 18th place, but he was actually the 9th MX2 rider although this didn't matter as the race wasn't being scored as separate classes.

A scorecard of 6th, 8th and 18th gave James 31 points on the day and he came away with 9th overall, and he has jumped up from 14th in the championship to now lie in 10th place at the halfway stage of the season.

Reflecting on the day afterwards James said, 'Today has been a much better day than last time out, I had a 6th, 8th and in the mixed race I had an 18th so I still managed to get some points. I struggled a little in the last race with the heat but I felt good all day and hopefully I can carry this form on into the next race and keep things rolling.'
